START TEL AVIV 2017 competition is nearing

START TEL AVIV 2017 competition is nearing its final event which will take place on 05 July 2017 at Teikums co-working & experiment space. From a large number of applications, the jury of the competition has chosen six start-ups which will compete to win the main prize, i.e. a trip to Israel and the possibility to participate in DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival.

The teams which made it to the final are as follows:

ALINA (Solvita Kostjukova) – produces state-of-the-art clay mineral materials by challenging how things are made. By putting people’s health first, they take responsibility not only for people, but also for the environment. ALINA uses innovative production technology to manufacture clay mineral materials available for building product manufacturers to substitute for toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
ALINA’s purpose is to improve indoor air quality through the introduction of innovative and sustainable mineral-materials. (Eldars Sarafutdinovs) – produces and markets a personal urban mobility solution, i.e. a customisable electric longboard made available on a subscription basis throughout Europe. Their electric skateboards (urban boards) are specially designed for urban commuting (to get you home, to work or place of study) as fun, zero-emissions, economical and practical vehicles which may be easily taken anywhere be it your office, university or café.

s’COOL (Marta Avotniece) the winner of the Startup Slalom Ventspils IT hackathon, provides approved, fun and educational content in short videos and follow-up call to action tasks with interactive twist for the first individual smartphone users. Real-time feedback from the teacher and integrated motivational system help to instil curiosity in kids and spark desire to engage and find out more about the world we are living in.

Driways (Janis Boss) – is an app that allows co-workers to share rides in a quick and convenient way available only for closed space, e.g. only within the company to ensure privacy and comfort. This product is made for companies that want to help their employees get home quicker and cheaper, and can also save money by decreasing amount of taxi and public transport expense compensations, and improve employees’ relationships and overall mood.

Animals Life NET (Mark Barkan) is s web platform which carries out 24/7 live broadcasts from animal shelters across the globe. The main idea of the project is to attract public attention to the problem of homeless animals. This is accomplished by installing webcams at animal shelters and rescues where website visitors have the possibility to render their support by volunteering, adopting a pet or purchasing essential pet products which we will deliver to the shelter.

Tactile Eyesight, (Mareks Matisons) – a team that was formed during the Startup Weekend event in Latvia, is thriving to provide an easy & affordable way to support blind communities by giving them easy access to 3D digital tactile layouts.
It means that there is an opportunity in applying rising 3D printing technology to mass-production of tactile books and thus making them more available.
